Every year, the “Leadership, Team-building and Problem solving” (LTP) alumni will organize an AGE which stands for Annual Gathering Event. Hundreds of enthusiastic and energetic individuals were molded through this LTP program which was co-organised by MDeC and D’Jungle People. Over the years the alumni has proven to be strong with encouraging numbers of participants enrolling for the different events held each year each with positive feedbacks. The first AGE was a BBQ event in year 2004, followed up by a camping outing in 2005 and then we decided to go posh in 2006 with a dinner and dance event held in Renaissance Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. It was a wet and wild in AGE4 when we had a beach and telematch outing at Port Dickson in 2007. This 2008 year is the alumni's 5th consecutive year organizing such an event. After much deliberation, the AGE5 committee team comprised of KT Ling, Casey Goh, Kidd Toh, Marvin Yoong, Siew Mei, Seow and myself decided to go back to Cameron Highlands to where it all began….the Keepers of the Flame.
With only 3 months to prepare, we had to come up with an event which is fun and unforgettable - an event which we will never stop talking about, the good things of course! We wanted to revive the “flame” without replicating the events organized by D’Jungle People during the Keepers of the Flame (“KOTF”) programme. Every AGE 5 programme was analysed thoroughly, incorporating the 7 pillars of KOTF; Caring, Courage, Honesty, Integrity, Responsibility Loyalty, Fairness and Humility. In preparation for the AGE5 Committee brainstorming session, I started researching about Cameron Highlands as I only knew Cameron Highlands as a place to enjoy the cool climate weather, with a nice cup of tea and scones with the family. Browsing through the webpage www.cameronhighlands.com, a Plant-a-Tree programme article caught my eye. We talked so much about saving the earth and being environmental friendly but we didn’t take the initiative to take action and to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. It was fate that I took down the contacts of one of the R.E.A.C.H. committee member, Dr. Liau Tai Leong who is the Vice President of R.E.A.C.H. That phone call on 24 October 2007 to Dr Liau on the morning of 24 October 2007 MADE A DIFFERENCE. With endless discussion through emails, phone calls and face-to-face meetings with Dr Liau, we finally came up with a full day itinerary |
